Bettmerhorn

The Bettmerhorn is a 2,857-metre summit in the Bernese Alps of the Swiss canton of Valais, rising above the car-free village of Bettmeralp on the southern flank of the Rhône valley. Its principal draw is an unobstructed panorama of the Great Aletsch Glacier — at 23 kilometres the longest glacier in the Alps and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site since 2001 — spread across the valley below. A gondola from Bettmeralp makes the summit accessible to families and non-climbers alike. In summer the plateau serves as a trailhead for high-altitude walks along glacial moraines; in winter the surrounding Aletsch Arena ski area connects the Bettmerhorn to one of the largest ski domains in the Valais.
