Caricatura Museum Frankfurt

The Caricatura Museum of Comic Art in Frankfurt am Main is the only museum in Germany dedicated to the genre of Komische Kunst. It occupies the historic Leinwandhaus just behind the Roemerberg. The permanent collection centres on the Neue Frankfurter Schule - Robert Gernhardt, F. K. Waechter, Chlodwig Poth, F. W. Bernstein and Hans Traxler - who from the 1960s onwards built up an enduring tradition of intelligent absurdity through the satirical magazines "Pardon" and later "Titanic". Original drawings, cartoons, sculptures and manuscripts trace how a small Frankfurt editorial team became the most influential German satire tradition. Temporary shows feature contemporary cartoonists and comic artists. Admission is cheap, the captions are often comedy in themselves, and children old enough to read enjoy the visit.
