Museumsufer

Frankfurt's Museumsufer is a roughly two-kilometre promenade along the Sachsenhausen bank of the Main, where 13 museums are concentrated in an unusually tight stretch — including the Städel art museum, the Deutsche Filmmuseum, and the Museum der Weltkulturen. Most buildings are converted Gründerzeit villas and bourgeois townhouses, systematically repurposed from the 1970s onward as part of a deliberate municipal cultural investment strategy that drew international attention as a model for urban policy. Each August the Museumsuferfest transforms the entire riverbank into one of Germany's largest open-air cultural festivals, drawing over three million visitors. Year-round, the wide promenade offers open views of the Frankfurt skyline and the historic Main bridges, with cyclists, strollers, and picnic groups sharing the riverside strip.
