Liebieghaus

The Liebieghaus on Frankfurt's Museumsufer occupies an 1896 Historicist villa and holds one of Germany's foremost sculpture collections, spanning ancient Egypt and Greece through Rome, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicism. The villa was built for textile industrialist Heinrich von Liebieg and bequeathed to the city of Frankfurt in 1909. The collection is particularly noted for its medieval ivory carvings and a rare group of late-Gothic altarpiece figures. The adjoining garden offers a pleasant walk along the riverbank between gallery rooms, and the terrace takes on a relaxed atmosphere on warm evenings with views toward the Main.
