ROMA MEZARLARI

A little-known Roman-era necropolis situated near the Sarı Taş quarries along the Nevşehir–Avanos road, a short distance from Göreme. The rock-cut tombs were discovered by chance and have suffered considerable damage over the centuries, typical of the lesser-documented burial sites scattered across Cappadocia. The site is accessible by car only to a certain point, after which a roughly ten-minute walk across rough terrain is required. There is no signage or visitor infrastructure, and the tombs sit in an isolated landscape that rewards those curious about the region's ancient past — though visiting alone is not advisable.
