Wied Il-Għasel

Wied Il-Għasel is a dry riverbed valley carved through pale limestone in the Maltese interior, forming part of the Victoria Lines Trail — the defensive ridge built by the British across the island in the late 19th century. The route threads along the valley floor between dramatic rock formations that rise steeply on both sides, giving the place a raw, untamed feel rarely found on the densely inhabited island. Mosta Bridge looms overhead at one point, best appreciated from directly below. Spring brings a bloom of wildflowers and native plants across the valley floor. The hike is largely easy, though loose rocks and muddy patches after rain call for proper footwear.
