family outings
Valletta, Malta's capital, is small enough to explore on foot yet rich in family-friendly destinations. The Barrakka Lift drops you to the Grand Harbour, while the Saluting Battery and the underground Lascaris War Rooms bring history to life for children and adults alike. The Grandmaster's Palace and Fort Rinella round out the city's storied past, and Għar Dalam — a cave containing ancient animal remains — makes for a genuinely curious stop. Day trips extend to the Tarxien Temples, the Rotunda of Mosta, the sandy beach at Ir-Ramla l-Ħamra, the Blue Lagoon at Bejn Il-Kmiemen, and the colourful Popeye Village.

The Blue Lagoon at Comino nestles between the tiny islands of Comino and Cominotto in the heart of the Maltese archipelago. The shallow, sheltered bay glows in a striking shade of turquoise — a result of its pale sandy floor and often less than two metres of depth. Around 20,000 visitors arrive each year, many by ferry from Malta or Gozo. Outside peak season, when the boats stop running, an almost otherworldly quiet settles over the lagoon. It is among the most popular snorkelling destinations in the entire Mediterranean.
