Argotti Botanic Gardens

Tucked just outside the gates of Valletta in Floriana, the Argotti Botanic Gardens date to the early 18th century, when the Knights of St John first laid out the grounds. Today managed by the University of Malta, the site holds Grade-1 listed monument status in Malta's National Inventory of Cultural Property. The garden holds a collection of Mediterranean flora set along wide, shaded promenading paths — a compact but genuine retreat from the capital's bustle. A central research section is fenced off most of the week, but the surrounding public garden is open daily and rewards visitors with far-reaching views toward Valletta's skyline and, on clear days, the distant silhouette of Mdina. Guided tours and occasional plant sales are run through the university's resource centre.
