outdoor activities
Malta's outdoor scene around Valletta spans coastline, countryside and harbour. The Barrakka Lift connects the city's upper level to the waterfront with open views over the Grand Harbour. Along the coast, Dingli Cliffs and Ta' Ċenċ Cliff offer dramatic drops to the sea, while the Blue Grotto and the Blue Lagoon at Bejn Il-Kmiemen are popular for boat trips and snorkelling. The red-sand beach of Ir-Ramla l-Ħamra provides a quieter stretch for swimming. On land, the Victoria Lines offer a scenic walking route across the island, and green spaces at Argotti Botanic Gardens and Ta' Qali National Park invite a slower pace. Għar Dalam and Mediterraneo Marine Park round out the options for nature-focused outings.

The Blue Lagoon at Comino nestles between the tiny islands of Comino and Cominotto in the heart of the Maltese archipelago. The shallow, sheltered bay glows in a striking shade of turquoise — a result of its pale sandy floor and often less than two metres of depth. Around 20,000 visitors arrive each year, many by ferry from Malta or Gozo. Outside peak season, when the boats stop running, an almost otherworldly quiet settles over the lagoon. It is among the most popular snorkelling destinations in the entire Mediterranean.
