MUŻA — Malta's National Community Art Museum — opened in 2018 inside the Auberge d'Italie, an early 18th-century baroque palace built for the Knights of St John in the heart of Valletta. The limestone building, with its restrained facade and internal courtyard, is itself a draw: it represents one of the finest surviving auberges of the knightly order. The collection spans medieval to contemporary Maltese art, including Flemish and Italian baroque paintings that arrived on the island during centuries of Knights' rule. Previously known as the National Museum of Fine Arts at Admiralty House from 1974 to 2016, the museum relaunched with a broader community-art mandate. Floor arrows guide visitors through a series of halls that prove considerably more expansive than the entrance suggests, and guided tours add a professionally curated art-historical perspective.
