Heilbad Heiligenstadt railway station
Railway HistoryListed Building
Iselle di Trasquera station sits at the Italian south portal of the Simplon Tunnel and remains operated by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) — an administrative peculiarity given its location on Italian soil. On 29 May 1905, the day the tunnel was inaugurated as the world's longest railway tunnel at the time, a memorial was unveiled beside the station to commemorate the more than 60 workers who died during its construction. Today the station functions primarily as a transit stop on the Simplon route between Switzerland and northern Italy, with the modest monument beside the tracks serving as a quiet reminder of the human cost behind one of early 20th-century engineering's landmark achievements.
