Breithorn

The Breithorn in the Swiss canton of Valais rises to 3,437 metres, forming the eastern flank of the historic Simplon Pass route. It belongs to the Leone group, a comparatively quiet corner of the Walliser Alps away from the more frequented Zermatt massifs. From the summit, the views sweep across surrounding three-thousanders and, in clear conditions, south toward the Po Plain in Italy. The ascent demands solid fitness and surefootedness on steep alpine terrain, making it a rewarding objective for experienced mountain walkers and alpinists.
