Torrione Nord-Ovest

The Torrione Nord-Ovest is a medieval defensive tower on Bologna's northwestern edge, a surviving fragment of the city's once-extensive ring of walls, towers, and gates. In the Middle Ages Bologna maintained one of northern Italy's most elaborate urban fortification systems, of which only scattered remnants stand today. Designated an Italian national monument, the tower retains architectural significance as evidence of the city's medieval defensive character. Practical visiting conditions — including whether the interior is accessible — are best confirmed locally.
