Reliving the Sacra Infermeria
The Sacra Infermeria is a 16th-century infirmary complex built by the Knights Hospitaller in Valletta, once considered one of the finest medical institutions in the Mediterranean — its Great Ward stretches over 155 metres, making it one of the longest undivided halls in Europe. Today the building is split between a modern conference facility and a dedicated heritage experience: the 'Reliving the Sacra Infermeria' tour uses augmented reality overlays to reconstruct the hospital's operations, the daily life of the knights, and the treatment of the sick. Visitor reviews praise knowledgeable and engaging guides, though several note that the active conference use of the main hall diminishes its historical atmosphere. The AR application performs well indoors but may struggle to initialise on the rooftop in bright sunlight.
