Valletta Black Friars Experience

The Black Friars Experience is an immersive museum set within the Dominican friary of St Catherine's Monastery in Valletta, one of the few surviving monastic complexes in the Maltese capital. The Dominicans — nicknamed 'Black Friars' for their dark habits — have had a presence in Valletta since the medieval period, and the experience reconstructs daily life within the friary while revealing the layered ecclesiastical secrets embedded in its walls. The chapel interiors are richly decorated with frescoes and Catholic iconography, creating a contemplative atmosphere that visitors describe as both visually lavish and atmospherically hushed. A combined entry ticket (around €13) covers this attraction together with the adjacent St Catherine's Monastery and Secret Garden, both operated under the 'Hidden Valletta' umbrella.
