Toronto Union Station (1873)

Toronto's second Union Station was a passenger rail terminus opened in 1873 by the Grand Trunk Railway, built on the same site as the GTR's earlier first station just south of Front Street. It reflected the Victorian-era railway boom that made the GTR the backbone of early intercity travel across Ontario. The station was eventually superseded by the current Beaux-Arts Union Station, which opened in 1927, and was subsequently demolished. No physical trace remains today — its footprint survives only in historical maps and archival photographs of downtown Toronto's 19th-century rail corridor.
