Schiller Theater (first building)

The first Schiller Theater building was erected in late 19th-century Charlottenburg as part of the wave of private theater construction that accompanied rapid urbanization under the German Empire. The structure was destroyed during World War II, and a replacement building opened on the same site in 1951, later serving as a West Berlin state theater until its closure in 1993. The original building is sparsely documented today, representing the broader erasure of Berlin's Gründerzeit theater landscape through wartime bombing and postwar redevelopment.
