Wied Żembaq is a quiet natural valley near Valletta, one of the few genuinely green retreats on the densely built island of Malta. "Wied" is Maltese for a dry valley or watercourse — these narrow green corridors cut across the limestone plateau and shelter wildflowers and migratory birds. Visitors use the area for walking and singletrack mountain biking, and the solitude and fresh air make it a spot for photography or simply clearing one's head. One practical caveat: Malta's hunting season in autumn brings active shooting in rural areas, so check local calendars before visiting.
