Zelve Mountain Lookout

The Zelve Mountain Lookout sits near Göreme at the heart of Cappadocia, commanding wide views over one of Turkey's most distinctive volcanic landscapes. The terrain was shaped over millions of years by ash deposits from Mount Erciyes, subsequently carved by erosion into the tuff-stone pillars and oddly sculpted formations the region is known for — some visibly resembling animals or other silhouettes. The trail is steep and requires non-slip footwear, but rewards with a panorama over Pasabag and Pasava valleys that feels noticeably quieter than the more visited Pigeon Valley. The route from St. John's Church through Pasava Valley is a recommended circuit; downloading an offline map is advisable as trail markers are infrequent.
