Besso

The Besso is a 3,668-metre twin-peaked mountain in the Val d'Anniviers, canton of Valais, Switzerland, rising northwest of the Zinalrothorn. Its name comes from the local Patois dialect word for 'twins', a direct reference to the two distinct summits that define its ridgeline. Towering above the village of Zinal, it forms part of the high-alpine wall of three- and four-thousanders that encloses the upper valley. The ascent is a serious alpine route involving glacier travel and requires crampons and mountaineering experience. From the summit, the panorama stretches across the Zinalrothorn, Weisshorn, and the broader chain of Valais giants.
