Bishorn

The Bishorn is a twin-summited four-thousander in the Valais Alps, with its higher western peak reaching 4,149 m above sea level. Geologically it forms the northwestern extension of the Weisshorn's north ridge — a fact that explains both its shape and its remarkable views directly onto one of the Alps' most imposing arêtes. Among alpinists the Bishorn has a reputation as one of the more approachable four-thousanders in the region: the standard route from the Tracuit hut involves a moderate high-alpine glacier approach without severe technical difficulty, making it a rewarding objective for those building experience at altitude. The summit panorama takes in the Weisshorn, Matterhorn, and Dent Blanche, and in spring the broad slopes of the Turtmann glacier make the peak a classic ski-mountaineering destination.
