Red Valley
ArchaeologyObservation DeckPanoramic View+4
Rose Valley (Güllüdere Vadisi) sits northeast of Göreme at the heart of Cappadocia, taking its name from the warm reddish-pink hue the tuff rock takes on in evening light. The hiking trail winds through a canyon of eroded fairy chimneys and sculpted rock formations shaped by ancient volcanic deposits. Carved into the canyon walls are Byzantine cave churches dating from the 9th to 11th centuries, some retaining faded frescoes. The trail connecting Çavuşin to Göreme is manageable on foot or by bicycle and pairs naturally with the adjacent Red Valley. Early morning or late afternoon visits reward with dramatic light and noticeably thinner crowds compared to peak midday hours.
