Architecture in Strasbourg

Strasbourg in Alsace brings together architectural styles from many different periods. The Cathedral of Our Lady, with its striking sandstone façade, defines the city's skyline. The surrounding region adds further layers of history: the Abbatiale Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul and the Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite represent religious architecture ranging from Romanesque to Gothic, while the Aurelienkirche offers another ecclesiastical landmark. Medieval defensive structures are well represented by the ruins of Burg Ochsenstein, Burgruine Altwindstein, and the Châteaux de Dreistein, Hohenfels, and Guirbaden.
